INDONESIA’S SUBMISSION FOR BEST FOREIGN FILM AT THE ACADEMY AWARDS 2012 WILL BE COMING TO OUR SHORES THIS NOVEMBER AT GREATER UNION MELBOURNE
“Di Bawah Lindungan Ka’bah” (English: Under The Protection Of Ka’bah) is touted as Indonesia’s biggest ever feature film. It’s a love story set in the 1920s in Padang city of West Sumatera in Indonesia when the land was under colonial Dutch control. Directed by Hanny R. Saputra and starri…ng Herjunot Ali, Laudya Cynthia Bella, Didi Petet, Niken Anjani, Tarra Budiman and Jenny Rachman. This film is an adaptation of one of Indonesia’s renown scholars and novelists, Alm. Buya Hamka. It was a novel studied throughout high schools around Indonesia, thus marking it one of Indonesia’s classics.
