Welcome to Ikatan Australia – Nusantara (IKAN)
Situs internet yang bertujuan untuk menjadi perantara antara mahasiswa Indonesia dan guru Bahasa Indonesia di Victoria. Kalau tertarik menjadi sukarelawan di ruang kelas SD/SMP/SMA bahasa Indonesia di Australia, silakan baca informasi di bawah.

To register your interest
send Suzannah and Bianca an email describing why you’d like to volunteer with IKAN. Once accepted you will be sent information about how to officially register your details on the IKAN wikispace.

If you register on IKAN and volunteer you will:
- motivate young Australians to learn about Indonesia
- give them an opportunity to practice speaking Indonesian with a native speaker
- develop your communication skills and broaden your experiences in Australia
- have heaps of fun and make new friends.
To volunteer you must:
- liaise with the Indonesian teacher to organise your visit to the school
- be available during school hours: Mon-Fri, 8.30-3.30pm
- organise your own transport
- be punctual and organised because schools run on tight schedules
- enjoy and be confident speaking with primary and secondary students
- be flexible
- regularly check the IKAN site and update your details if they change
How it works:
- The IKAN wikispace is a database of contact details.
- Once you are registered, Indonesian teachers will email you and ask for your help. EXAMPLE:
Dear Bianca ,
Hi, my name is Suzannah. I teach Indonesian and I found your email address on the IKAN website. Would you be available to come and do a workshop with my yr 10 students about Indonesian pop music? They are learning about different types of music in Indonesia, maybe you could tell them about your favourite bands and show them a Video Clip. Do you have any other ideas? Part of the workshop will be in English, but I’d also like the students to interview you in Indonesian … and your friends if you want to bring someone with you.
My classes are at these times … are you available?
Tues 4th March: 11.35 – 12.55pm
Fri 7th March: 8.45 – 10.05am

- The activities and times will always be different because it depends on the school and the age group.
- The number of emails you receive will depend on whether teachers need volunteers. If you are keen to get experience at a school, please be proactive and contact the teachers listed on the site to offer your help.

I want to join this activity, because it is a media to introduce Indonesia to many young generation who come from diffrent countries who live in OZ. I am a teacher and I hope I can get new experience in teaching here.

Hi, I’m Tika. I’m interested in joining IKAN and work as a volunteer Bahasa Indonesia teacher since I need to get some experience of teaching language here as I believe that it would be very helpful & useful for my current work when I return to Indonesia. In addition, I’ll also be very happy to share my knowledge & skills in Bahasa Indonesia to Oz people here.

I am interested in the IKAN community and would like to join with the activities especially to introduce or to speak about Indonesia in my bahasa Indonesia.
